Gadgets that EVERYONE must own!

Those of you who know me well have come to recognize that I'm a little bit of a gadget whore. Some eyebrows are raising, I know. Truly, if there is a gadget out there that might remotely apply to my lifestyle, I've bought it.

For you novices, or gadget freak wanna-bes, I have compiled a list of the best gadgets that no one should live without.

I realize that you may be thinking, "why is she writing about THIS of all things, when there is so much more happening in the world right now?" and to that I will say this: True, Very Important Things are happening in the world right now. But thinking about them makes me want to throw up a little. So to give myself (and you, my little following of readers) a little break from all the seriousness, I offer this fun list. And though I encourage all of you to shop locally, you can also find all of this on www.thinkgeek.com

#1 Driinn Mobile Phone Charger Holder

blog post photo

Available locally at Shalimar on the Commons in Ithaca, NY. I highly recommend going there for a variety of cool things. But if you must shop online it is easy to find. You plug place your charger into the outlet THROUGH the big hole in the holder. Wind the nineteen miles of extra cord that your charger came with around the holder, and rest your phone on the shelf. ***GIFT ALERT this is great for ALL your coworkers/employees/friends/strangers on the street. Buy one now! [under ten bucks]

#2 Utili-Key 6 in 1 Tool

blog post photo

I'm not sure who has this locally; I bought one for my dad 8 years ago when I worked at Eddie Bauer. All I know is, he still uses it, on an almost daily basis. It has a screwdriver (Phillips head) on one end (dont' worry the flat head is at the other end), and has a serrated knife, eyeglass screwdriver, and it all fits on your keyring next to your keys. If you want to find it online go to : http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/tools/6d98/ ***GIFT ALERT [under ten bucks]

#3 Staple Free Stapler

blog post photo

Without a doubt, our friend Milton (Office Space... a must watch movie, but that's a different blog entry!) would be very upset if THIS was his stapler that was getting stolen. The staple free stapler looks like just a hole puncher, but looks can be deceiving. Put your papers in this stapler, and the puncher ensures that your papers stay secure without using any metal staples. I have two. Two, people! I told you I had a problem... anyway, go to http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/tools/8b70/?cpg=ab **GIFT ALERT [under ten bucks]

#4 Light My Fire Spork

blog post photo

Okay, the thing is, the word "spork" (which apparently IS in the dictionary.. well, the one online, anyway) doesn't even do justice to this magnificent tool. I have decided that Knifspork is better. It is imperative that you pronounce the "K" at the beginning, or it's just not funny. And isn't that what you look for in a utensil? For the money, this is a great deal, and can be found at the same website I keep referencing. It's under ten dollars. Awesome. It doesn't cut very well, but the fact is as an emergency utensil (office birthday, anyone?) it works very well. I don't know if this is a gift alert item, as anyone you buy this for might just look at you funny. I, for one, may buy it for everyone I know, but they already look at me funny.

#5 MagnoGrip

blog post photo

Yes, I have one. Yes, my dad has one too. Yes, we are both GEEKS (he also has a binary clock, wanna make somethin' of it?)! This is just plain smart. I couldn't even keep track of how many times I've lost a lugnut. Okay, never, since I've never had to change a tire. Murphy's Law indicates that by this time tomorrow, I will wish I had my MagnoGrip with me, as I will be stranded on the side of the road, searching for the lost lugnuts. This is the PERFECT GIFT for anyone who has everything already. C'mon, you ALL know someone like that (why do you think I bought my dad the binary clock?!?). This is under twenty bucks!

#6 Powermonkey Portable Charger

blog post photo

I don't have this one yet. But I will. Why, you may ask? Because this thing is so awesome, that the word awesome isn't even going to describe just how awesome it is. Okay, I'm done with that. Had to get it out of my system. Here's what it does. You plug the PowerMonkey (I keep wanting to call it a Spider Monkey, but don't plug one of THOSE in, they get ticked off and hurt you) into any regular outlet. You charge it that way, and it holds a charge for UP TO A YEAR, PEOPLE! It comes with a TON of charging adapters so it will work on virtually every rechargeable item you use. If you are like me, that's quite a few things! This is a little pricier, but still a great gift for your loved ones who always need a recharge. It's $49.99. But in MY book, worth every last penny. No more will I have a dead cell phone battery. I'm ordering mine right now. Seriously. And again, you can find it on www.thinkgeek.com

#7 Gadget Hip Holster

blog post photo

This is NOT COOL, I repeat, NOT COOL people. I had to include it to show you that even I have limits. If I catch you wearing this, you will be mocked ceaselessly. The scary part: Think Geek is sold out of these, which means that hundreds, nay, thousands of geeks are running around the country wearing this thing. Please, I implore you, STOP. This is the reason you have not had a date in 17 years.

#8 TV-B-Gone

blog post photo

Okay, so all this really does is shuts off any tv, anywhere, from a distance of up to 50 feet depending on the model of television. The devil in me would love to take this with me as I walk home from work and use it through people's windows. I mean really, it really only has "practical joke" applications. But the guys at ThinkGeek.com think it's pretty hilarious, so here it is. I could have used this while at a restaurant in Binghamton. There are times (like when I'm eating) that I don't want to hear/watch the things I heard/saw.

#9 ChargePod

blog post photo blog post photoAfter ChargePod

I really enjoy this one. Maybe because I can relate so well to the "before" picture, and wish everything in my life was as harmonius as the "after" picture. Needless to say, the ChargePod isn't going to make your ENTIRE life blissful and easy. But charging all your stuff will be!

This is another pricey one, at $69.99. But again, isn't your sanity worth it?

#10, and my FAVORITE NEW GADGET.... the DaysAgo Refrigerator Timer

blog post photo
The DaysAgo Refrigerator Timer may just be the one thing that SAVES all that junk in my fridge. You stick it on a food item and then press the button. At a quick glance you will be able to see how many days that salsa's been in there (though for the record, salsa takes an inordinately long time to rot) I will buy so many of these, you won't be able to see the food for all the timers in there!

blog post photo

And the beauty part is, for $7.99 you get TWO of them!!! Okay, how is this not the best freakin' thing ever??????

Alright friends, you knew I was weird, you've all told me before. And you have even learned to love me through my geekiness. But now the proof is here: I am standing up now to say, I am Laura Love, and I am a Gadget Addict.
